Officially beginning in 1853 along the Buffalo Bayou and the Brazos river, Missouri City had the first railroad operation in Texas. Missouri City has since seen tremendous economic growth, moving eastward, southward, and then westward.
It has grown to includes such residential developments like Lake Olympia, Sienna Plantation, and Riverstone.

As of the census of 2010, there were 67,358 people, 20,228 households, and 16,711 families residing in the city.
It boasts shopping at First Colony Mall, golf courses at Quail Valley, and parks and recreation areas.
